Well engineered and purpose built Review by christopher r / (Posted on 12/25/2022)
I purchased the mk 1 in PenCott GreenZone. This bag has every pocket and compartment needed for a purpose range bag, an edc bag for the shop or office.
The laser cut molle slits allow expansion for more space. The padded interior gives room for a good sized tablet or laptop and the sectioned space with velcro gives a perfect platform for a pistol holster and spare mags or a compact pdw. The velcro front is perfect for display of patches. Mine shows off my polish 303rd Fighter Squadron patch and has enough room for my polski white eagle patch.

Decent bag and well built(using it for a flight bag) Review by alan p / (Posted on 10/19/2021)
Purchased this after seeing another guy at work with one. They had a special on a weird digi cam pattern so I picked one up for about 1/2 price of the ‘normal’ color options. I like the back bc there is a see through pouch where I keep some paper flight charts and some other navigational items. In the main compartment there is a nice padded pouch for my iPad. The main pouch has a large area big enough for my headset and smoke hood. Also keep pens and batteries in the pouches. Also the molle on the outside of the bag is great for storing pens. I like the bag doesn’t fall over. Retains its shape even when I throw a jacket in the pouch. Would definitely buy another one but would prolly wait for a clearance bag.

Very good bag Review by Bryan B / (Posted on 3/9/2021)
Good design and tough. This bag is big enough to carry everything I need plus a few extra things. The drag handle is great for moving it around or adjusting it while wearing. The strap is great for walking about. The only complaint I have is that I'd rather the side bottle pocket be like the opposite side pocket.

Amazing quality Review by Skylar A / (Posted on 7/7/2020)
I've only had this bag for a few weeks, but the craftsmanship is impeccable. sturdy buckles and material thickness is good, I'd expect it to last a very long time. only downside is that the lips that cover the top compartment when closing, sometimes don't cover it and need to be done manually after the bag is closed.

Quite simply the BEST bag I've ever owned Review by Erik N / (Posted on 3/31/2020)
This bag is worth every penny-in fact it's a deal at $200. Extremely well made and thought out. Fits my HP Elitebook perfectly. Just the right amount of doo hickeys and pockets to hold what you need. If it doesn't fit...GET rid of it. I'm on the move. This bag takes a beating. Nobody on the move needs a 17" laptop. C'mon man, how you gonna move fast with a 30lb sack of trash? Direct Action gear is built for heart breakers and life takers. Not for cubicle warriors and office turds (but, it'll work for them just the same).

Almost perfect Review by Glenn B / (Posted on 7/11/2019)
Ok first of all the build quality of this bag is top notch, about as good as it gets. There are however a few design elements that if improved could make it out of this world. Here are my suggestions: 1. Ditch the morale patch Velcro on the main flap. That stuff gets dingy a worm long before a bag does. At least make it optional. 2. The left side organizational pouch, the one with the pen slots, has that smaller flapped compartment inside. This pouch is great as it holds a small wireless mouse perfectly but there’s that Velcro again rearing its ugly head. It works well enough but snags on the mesh every time. Suggest magnetic snap. 3. The water bottle holder. Velcro again? Comon, is it Just a cheap and easy solution requiring no design thought process? How about an adjustable strap with a side pinch buckle? Maybe one that’s actually long enough to fit over a water bottle. Speaking of water bottles, ever heard of Nalgene? 4. There are these little overhangs on the top sides of the main flap that you have to adjust pretty much every time you close the bag. Not a huge deal but it seems like yet another design hack for a premium-ish bag. 5. Make the main strap removable, no brainer and so easy. The good news is the bag’s functionality far, far outweighs its shortcomings. I’ve owned a lot of bags from Tom Bihn to Waterfield and this DA bag is built as well as any I’ve seen.

Fell in love with the bags immediately. I purchased both the small and large bags in the PL Woodland. They have an outstanding fit and finish and should serve well for some time to come. If I had one suggestion it would be to offer one that was a little bigger. Maybe an XL version. Other than that I am thrilled with my purchase and will recommend them to my friends and colleges.

Why not for a 15" laptop? Review by THUD / (Posted on 9/15/2018)
Why do you not make this bag for a 15" laptop? A lot of us carry large screen laptops with armor cases. Too bad the pocket on this wasn't bigger. I like everything about this but have always had the bigger laptops, as do many others. I currently carry a Mac Book Pro with the Thule armor, so need a bigger laptop protected sleeve.

I like it. Review by Russell E / (Posted on 8/3/2018)
Water bottle holder could be bigger to fit a Nalgene sized canister, front admin pouch could zip down a little further, maybe incorporate a pouch either behind the front external pouches or in the Velcro-lined area internally that could accept a small ipad or surface type device - fully padding the back external zippered pouch would serve that purpose also. Now the positives, I bought the bag because of the brand-name materials used to make it - I expect it to last many years. I like being able to add Velcro-backed attachments internally. It's a quality product.

Great EDC/Work Bag Review by Sam S / (Posted on 6/15/2018)
I got this for my engineering job and it looks great in the office while being rugged and spacious enough to hold all my tools and notes. The only complaints that I have are that I wish the laptop sleeve held my 15” laptop and there is some messed up sewing on the flap piping of mine. Direct Action makes some awesome products and their customer service was stellar as well. I’m glad I spent a bit more and got a bag that’ll last years!

Sturdy, well made shoulder bag that isn't over-sized but just the right size! Review by Mike T / (Posted on 3/29/2018)
This bag is made to carry what you need to carry not everything that you can carry. It is well constructed and easy to shift around on your body or to store while not carrying. The size is perfect for everyday carry plus a couple of things you might want to bring along such as some books or things you need with you that are not part of your everyday routine. I would highly recommend the Messenger Bag. I believe this is based on the Mk I but I think that the changes to the Mk II will only make it a better bag. The non-slip on the bottom is nice but I would rather not have it as it catches on certain materials more than I would like. This has been removed in the newer version and I was glad to see this adjustment. Great job on making a fantastic bag and improving it over time Direct Action!

Great Quality Bag! Just a little too small. Review by Sean F / (Posted on 3/14/2018)
Really impressed with DA from the time I opened the box. This was my 1st purchase with them and was impressed with both the packing and quality right out of the box. Whole bag looks well made down to the little things. Great pocket options and sizes. Love the elastic rope on the bottom and the water resistant pockets. I'm sure I'll still be finding small things I haven't noticed months from now. Looking forward to using this for years to come.

Only issues I've seen so far probably has more to do with me not doing homework. There was no way my 15in laptop can fit in there, but my 13in MacBook fits in the pocket like a glove. Not the end of the world, but I'm glad I got on a bit of a sale because $100 for a bag that won't fit a regular size lap top is a little steep.

That being said, if that isn't an issue for you...pick one up! You'll be impressed too.

The Best that I have purchased Review by John / (Posted on 3/8/2018)
While I do believe that this is a excellent product, I would like to offer some beneficial suggestions for improvement.

1. While this is considered a Messenger Bag, the main compartment should have a zipper for added security and for keeping items safe from weather conditions. This issue is prohibiting me from traveling with this Bag to a dusty environment.

2. The Water bottle pocket is useless to me. I would prefer an additional Zippered Pocket for added storage capacity.

3. The cord on the bottom of the bag has become caught on other items in overhead bins & conveyer belts at Airport Security Check Points.

Overall, this is an outstandingly functional EDC Bag that is a bargain at the current price.

Direct Action does it again! Review by Mike H / (Posted on 3/7/2018)
This is my second purchase from Direct Action. Last year I purchased the Dragon Egg MK2, during the Independence Day sale as my new EDC, work bag, and I was immediately blown away by the outstanding quality. These guys at Direct Action don't believe in cutting corners to save a buck. Their products are truly amazing and worth every penny. These are the best bags and packs on the market.

I wanted to try the Messenger bag as my new work EDC, so I could turn my Dragon Egg into my get home bag. The messenger bag is just what I needed. I love the layout and design. It's perfect for all my daily essentials. I went with the Gray on both bags for a less tactical look. Now I have a matching set of Direct Action gear! Thank you for such great products. Thanks for the extras in the box as well. I'm going to use my new discount coupon on a T-shirt next. Do you guys offer stickers as well? I'd love to get some to show my love for DA! Thanks again for amazing gear! #GoLoud

High Quality Review by Justin G / (Posted on 2/9/2018)
I use this bag to carry a Surface Pro (perfect fit), its accessories, and a P226 when I can't conceal carry. I've owned bags and briefcases from other semi-tactical manufacturers and this one is on a whole other level. The material, stitching, webbing, and hardware are all excellent. I honestly expected this bag's price tag to be above what it is. It's a great value, and I'm 100% satisfied. Would recommend.

Perfect Sized EDC Messenger Bag Review by Rory W / (Posted on 12/13/2017)
I'm very inpressed with my D. A. Messenger Bag. The design and layout of the pockets and organizers are really well thought out. It holds my 12" tablet perfectly. The biggest plus about this bag is the overall size. It is not too big and not too small. It's ideally sized for every day carry items. I work for a major mining oem, and have received nothing but positive compliments and intrest inquiries about the bag. My only selfish request would be for a larger hook and loop surface area on the front flap, so I could place more morale patches. I have a great collection of ridiculous morale patches.

New Every day carry bag Review by Marcus M / (Posted on 11/30/2017)
Mission: I had been using a competitors product for my every day carry items, but it was too "round" shaped, like a soccer ball, and when carried tended to protrude outward from the body too much, and tended to roll around when set down, especially in a vehicle. I was looking for a bag that was more streamlined, and didn't scream "I am a tactical bag". The Direct Action messenger bag (coyote tan) fills that bill nicely. I had tried a similar bag from another maker, but wasn't happy with the capacity, about the same size (cubic inches) but far too many pockets in the main compartment that ate up internal space.
Durability: the material is high quality and the stitching is clean, no loose of frayed ends. the laser cut PALS type panels add utility without adding bulk and maintain a low profile, less overt appearance. I've carried the bag every day in the couple weeks since I've had it and it and I don't foresee any problems with workmanship or materials.
Features: Attention to detail is key, and this bag has little detail items that really stand out. Putting heat shrink tubing on the zipper pulls is inspired, it makes them easier to grab and more durable. Having a "key keeper" in each of the external pockets is a good design feature that other bags done have. The folded ends of the top flip where it covers the access to the main compartment prevents rain from getting in and shows that the bag is well thought out. The internal see through compartment for maps, or just to make it easier to see whats inside is also a great touch.
Recommended Improvements: The water bottle carrier is great for a coffee cup, but is too small for a standard 1L nalgene or similar bottle when the bag is packed (its TIGHT, tough to put in or remove). Either make that pocket a little larger, perhaps with an elastic compression cord with a cord-lock, or better yet have a PALS panel on that end of the bag to attach something like a Hydro utility pouch. The pad on the shoulder strap adds padding, but tends to slip off the shoulder. Other makers are using a panel of high traction rubberized textile that helps with this issue. I plan to put some strips of "shoe goo" on mine to keep it from slipping The PALS on the internal pockets could be eliminated. While it doesn't add much bulk or weight, its pretty unlikely that if the pockets are filled you would be able to get the bag to close over even a small utility pocket. Pals webbing does make a great place to stuff trauma shears (Army medic, 33 years experience, I always carry a pair) or a pen, but apart from that its just not going to be used as intended. Make the velcro patches on the bottom of the covered pockets larger to aid in grabbing the top flap if you have the bag packed
Apart from those small concerns, its a great bag. Price is competitive with peer products from other makers and I believe this is a better value because of features and quality. after over 30 years in the Army I've had a few bags, I anticipate this one will last for many years to come. My battalion S4 NCO is even looking into a bulk purchase for "Impact awards".

Regards,
MSG M2

I liked the reviews & knew I wouldn't be disappointed. I didn't think it would surpass my expectations so much! Incredibly durable, thoughtfully designed to maximize all spaces and wrapped in a smooth 500 Cordura nylon with low profile laser cut loops. And a big patch of Velcro for personalized morale patches! It's a just right bag in size, shape & style. Going tactical or vacation. You won't look like "Rambo" unless you want to. Many colors to choose from. For the quality & price, I'll go with Direct Action over my beloved Maxpedition anytime (Sorry, Max!).

Worth more than what you pay Review by Chayanne O / (Posted on 5/10/2017)
I haven't had the messenger bag for very long so I cant really give a full review but i own lots of nylon gear ( bags, chest riggs, ect) from big name brands and i have to say i was Really impressed with everything about the bag , the stiching, materials used all the options you have to set it up for you and the placement of the pockets. But again I haven't had it for very long so i cant say it's durable or anything along those lines.

Worth Every Penny Review by Michael K / (Posted on 4/12/2017)
It's difficult to find a negative about this bag. If I had to pick one thing I do not like, it would be that it does not fit a laptop with a 15.6" screen. Other than that, the bag is amazing. It is well built with quality materials. You can just feel that it well made. The organization is on point and well located. For its size, you can fit quite a bit in it. Finally, it just looks clean. there isn't a bunch of junk hanging off of it which makes it ideal for many different users.

Messenger Bag Review by Timothy C / (Posted on 11/26/2016)
As I received a 20% discount on the item in honor of Veterans Day I couldn't help but purchase this item. As both a Veteran of the Military and still in LE I'd come across your product through a friend who had one in Grey about 4-5 months back and waited for the price to be what I got it for as I was impressed with the quality and durability when I checked his bag out. Very satisfied with mine....

Daily laptop bag / Extension of my EDC Review by Michael O / (Posted on 11/14/2016)
This is the sturdiest, most impressively built bag that I own. I chose the grey version as I use this daily for a laptop bag going to and from the office on a daily basis. I wanted a bag that could easily blend in to corporate America, but one that also had the ability to organize, configure, and have space for the extension of my EDC items. This bag fits a Fatty Maxpedition organizer in the front pocket and a skinny pocket organizer (I use Maxpedition for this as well) for the side pocket which is where I keep my first-aid kit. The laser-cut MOLLE/ PALS webbing slots are extremely durable. I have a flashlight holster and 2 caribiners woven through. With the messenger flap covering the contents through that webbing, it still easily passes for a normal laptop bag. I am very impressed with this bag and I am better prepared by having it with me.

Absolutely the best constructed bag I own Review by Michael O / (Posted on 11/14/2016)
I wanted a bag that I could use for professional use, to and from the office, with the modular capabilities to serve as a rugged and spacious extension of my EDC. With the added pockets big enough to fit a Maxpedition Fatty, I have constructed a professional messenger bag that could easily work as a get home bag as well. I chose the grey version to look less tactical than the camo which looks great without sacrificing any of the tactical features. I couldn't be more excited to carry this bag.

Good, but... Review by Tim I / (Posted on 11/13/2016)
The quality is exceptional! I wish the bag was just an inch wider. I carry in it a 13.5 MacBook Pro with a safety skin on it, maybe a 1/4" addition to the overall computer, and it is just to tight in the laptop pocket. I read ALOT of other reviews that say the same thing. Other than that, the bag is perfect! Really, perfect!

Excelent Bag, very well made Review by Nathan C / (Posted on 10/23/2016)
As a college student I've definitely enjoyed using this bag. It's able to fit all my school needs for books and supplies, and I'm also able to have a trauma kit in the front zip pocket that opens all the way.
The only thing that I'd change is make the water bottle pocket a bit bigger as it won't fit a nalgene or anything close to it's size.
But I carry around a water bottle that fits well and have no real issues.

It's a great bag!

Fantastic product with room for slight improvements Review by eiresurg / (Posted on 10/21/2016)
I've had this bag for a week now. It is my everyday bag for work. My overall impression is very positive, but there is some minor room for improvement.

Materials:
No corners were cut. Only quality materials were used in the construction of this bag. Heavy-duty Cordura nylon. Appropriately sized zippers. 2" wide shoulder strap with large Duraflex buckles on EACH end. Rubberized bottom which appears will hold up well over time. Lots of hook and loop throughout.

Fit and Finish:
Very well constructed. All cut edges are trimmed with additional Cordura piping. There is double stitching around the zippers. No loose threads. All of the panels are double and triple layers of materials. The only panel that is a single layer of material is the one external side-pocket where it is completely appropriate. The laser cut Molle is clean.

Size: This is a small briefcase (or, very small messenger bag).

The Molle panels:
It's worth describing how these are constructed to alleviate any concerns. Anywhere you see this Molle there are three layers. The first two layers are fused together. The outer 1st layer is Cordura nylon which is fused to a 2nd layer of a thicker rubberized backing. The Molle pattern is laser-cut through these two layers. The 3rd layer is another layer of Cordura. It is not sewn or fused to the first two layers. There is a row of stitching along the top edge and bottom edge of each laser-cut hole to further reinforce the fused layers and the laser-cut holes. I think the chance that the Molle holes would tear or fray is pretty slim with regular use.

Compartments:
The main compartment is divided into two sections: one smaller compartment secured at the top with a 1.5" Velcro nylon strap and a larger section that is just open. My 17" MacBook Pro does not fit in the smaller compartment, but easily fits in the larger main compartment. A 15" or 13" laptop will fit easily in the smaller compartment. The smaller compartment is lined with a thin quilted fleece and is padded on all sides except the top. The larger area of the main compartment is completely lined with the loop side of Velcro! Very nice feature. It not only provides a little extra padding for the contents, but it permits endless options for adding interior elements.

One side compartment is a simple pocket meant for water bottles or coffee mugs. It holds my 16 oz Thermos snug. There is a 3/4" nylon strap with hook fabric on each end that allows you to secure the compartment shut for smaller mugs or other items you may wish to put in here. It is not long enough to reach over a 16 oz mug or bottle. I wish this pocket had a pull tab on the outside so you could hold it up open for inserting tight-fitting containers. I'm not sure a 1L Nalgene bottle would actually fit in here and if it does it would be a little tricky (i.e. frustrating) to get in.

The other side compartment is about 4"x6"x1". It has double zippers extending 2/3rds of the way down each side. It's good for a cellphone or other small miscellaneous stuff that you want to access more readily. The front panel of this compartment is three layers with Molle as described above. It has a nylon mesh pocket on the inside of the front flap with an elastic edge. The back panel of this compartment has a nylon fabric pocket also with an elastic edge. There is a 3/8" nylon webbing that is stitched to the back panel with a plastic hook on the end to secure keys or other similar items. In total, this bag actually has three of these keychain tethers.

There are two front compartments that are roughly 5"x8"x2" each with double zippers like the one side compartment. The one on the left unzips about half of the way down. The one on the right unzips all the way down. Both of these compartments have the triple layering with Molle as described above making up their front panel. Also, they both have a 2" band of Velcro loop that runs along the outside of the front panel. The left compartment has a nylon mesh pocket edged with Cordura that lines the outside panel. The back panel is lined with a large nylon fabric pocket. Overlying this is a smaller credit-card-sized nylon pocket on the left with 3 adjacent pencil pockets. There is a keychain hook stitched to the back panel. The front compartment on the right has Velcro loop lining the front panel and a nylon mesh pocket with an elastic edge lining the back panel. The front panel is tethered to the back panel by paracord creating a drawbridge-like effect that controls how far the front panel will hinge open. This is useful if you have something heavy secured to the front panel. Again, there is a keychain hook stitched to the back panel

There is a large flap that gives it the "messenger bag" designation. This flap is stitched to the back of the bag and covers the main central compartment as well as the two front compartments. The flap itself has two compartments or pockets of it's own On the inside of this flap there is a 4" wide strip of Velcro that runs the full width of the flap. This secures the flap to the two front compartments described above. There is also a roughly 12"x8" zippered pocket with a translucent panel. It's basically a big zippered window pocket. The outside of the flap is again the three layer Molle system. There are two 1" Duraflex buckles to help secure the flap down in addition to the Velcro. The entire outside is a zippered pocket which essentially mirrors that zippered window pocket on the inside of the flap that I described above. With the flap in place there is a handle for carrying the bag. It is made up of one layer of 2" nylon webbing with another layer of 1" nylon webbing. It's very sturdy and comfortable to carry. There are 1" Duraflex D-rings on either side of the handle as additional attachment points for the waist strap depending on how you want to use it, if at all. The back of the bag has one last zippered pocket with one layer of Cordura that makes up the outside panel. This pocket is the full dimensions of the back of the bag. It easily accommodates an iPad. There are 1" Duraflex D-rings at each end of the zipper for securing the waist band.

Comfort:
There is a 2" nylon web strap with 2" Duraflex buckles at each end. One end of the strap has a male component of the buckle the other end has a female component. So, the strap only goes on one way. It is adjustable in length. There is a rubberized Velcro sleeve that serves as a shoulder pad. It is excellent. The handle is very comfortable for carrying as mentioned. There is a 1" nylon web that is adjustable with Duraflex hooks on each end. It is a waist band that attaches to the various D-rings described above for additional security when carrying the bag cross-body in typical "messenger" style.

Summary:
This is a very well made, almost over-engineered, bag suitable as a daily carry for the office commuter or student. It is smaller than some, but sufficient in size for the minimalist. Despite the Molle attachments, it does not scream "TACTICAL", yet you still get that same durability and quality found in many tactical products.

Areas for improvement:
--I wish it was slightly bigger.
--I love the side pocket for a mug/Nalgene bottle, but I think it could be slightly deeper or wider or both. And, adding a pull tab to the outside lip of the pocket would assist with getting stuff into it.
--As a "tactical" product, I'm disappointed there isn't an easy access pocket for CCW!! The zippered back panel pocket or the outside pocket on the "messenger" flap are large enough for a full-sized semi-auto, but not easy to access in a pinch. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of the messenger style bags in general because they are cumbersome to access the internal compartments. The main compartment of this bag is completely lined with Velcro loop which would be good for mounting a holster to, but accessing this quickly is not possible with a messenger style bag.
--I would get rid of the Velcro that secures the "messenger" flap. There are already buckles. The Velcro is super noisy and cannot be separated with one hand.

Best selection for kidney failure tote bag. Review by Doug W / (Posted on 9/24/2016)
I bought the Messenger Bag to hold effects that I need as I go to dialysis. I needed a bag that could hold the items I needed to get me through 4 hours of dialysis. I needed a bag that had compartments to hold a small neck pillow, a small blanket, a tablet, snacks, charging cords for devices, my Artic thermos, games...etc. I like to be organized and compartmentalized, so I know where everything is located. I wish you provided a larger one than this one. I've read other reviews and have seen the same request. I've been able to utilize what space is offered, but I'm thinking about purchasing an additional pouch to attach to the bag. I like the color choice. I have inspected the quality of craftsmanship that was put into the bag and I'm highly pleased. This is a great product that will serve me well. Just wish it was a little bigger.

2016 State of the Art Messenger Bag Review by PruMan / (Posted on 8/19/2016)
Normally, I don't do reviews but this bag is so exceptional, I felt I could pass on something, someone might find valuable. I have two of these bags (Brown, Mandrake) and cannot find a single thing to complain about and I have an uber-critical eye. The size of the bag is a tad smaller than most in the tactical nylon arena, but since I've gone to traveling with my iPad Pro these days, it's PERFECT.

Attention to the details (notice: plural!) abounds. My gold standard on how well a bag is made is how much time I spend with a lighter, singing the loose strings that weren't trimmed at the factory. None on DAG bags; literally NONE. Their attention to detail is the best in the luggage industry as far as I'm concerned.

The MOLLE/PALS proprietary laminated system they use tones the 'tactical' scream most bags in this category have, a welcome addition that is ages overdue. Layout is thoughtful, perhaps the only single improvement I'd offer is to somehow make the flap detachable (perhaps a long row of velcro?) so you could carry the bag 'non-messenger' style.

One of the few manufacturers I've seen that offer the camo choices they do, plus the 500 denier Cordura is another welcome addition; you wouldn't believe how much better the bag feels next to your body in an airport plus the lowered weight. Hard to believe a simple reduction in thread count could make it that much better but it did.

I have 5.11 bags, Kifaru, Maxpedition, EMDOM, pretty much any manufacturer you could name and I travel a LOT. One thing I disdain is the casual user, tacticool junkie that uses their bag for simple commutes, applies morale patches and thugs the bag up with every conceivable pouch and then the bag is .0001 % used. Mine are in airports every week, in the field including a LOT of desert work, loaded to their limits, thrown in the back of makeshift trucks, had forklifts of gear dropped on them. They are USED, so it's no stretch to say these bags aren't only designed well, they're made well.

Without hesitation, these are the best messenger style bags make in 2016 at ANY price point and DAG supports their customer base as good as anyone in the business.

Best Messenger Bag on the Market Review by PruMan / (Posted on 8/18/2016)
As to tactical nylon, I'm what many would deem a serious user of it. Not for 'tacticool' for actual requirements needed on missions. And I travel a LOT, so there aren't many bags, of all types, I haven't purchased an put through the wringer. Briggs & Riley, Tumi, Maxpedition, 5.11, EMDOM, Kifaru, from cheap to expensive, civilian to full on tactical, I've used them and had them bashed on conveyor belts, dropped in deserts, sat on or loaded gear on by itinerant fork lift operators, the full Monty. That said, no one in the industry approaches the quality of DAG...I sum it up by how much time I spend with a lighter, singing other brand's loose threads and incomplete stitch 'hangers'. DAG gear (I've got two Messenger Bags) had NONE. Not one thread, loose. Their quality control is phenomenal. Their take on Molle/PALS, with their laminate laser cut is industry unique. The attention to the layout of pockets could ONLY be done by someone in the field, not a 'tacticool' fat boy behind a desk whose only concern is morale patches. On one side, they're influencing designs of other bag makers; on the other, they'll put some out of business, their product is that good! I'm buying probably three more and squirreling them away for use later. Best bag on the market, no matter the cost, in my humble opinion.

Hits every mark dead on. Review by Michael G / (Posted on 7/13/2016)
I received my messenger bag in just over 3 business days. The quick shipping and professional packaging was the first good impression that Direct Action made with me. Upon opening the box I found an envelope with a card thanking me for my purchase as well as a code to be used for a reward on my next purchase.
The bag itself was packaged in a Direct Action logo tote, perfect for trips to the grocery store. The messenger bag is of the highest quality. I found no flaws in it's heavy duty construction. The zippers and hardware are all rugged and the stitching is top notch.
I've been using this bag every day for about a month now and I couldn't be happier with it's performance and aesthetic. My opinion to anyone looking for a well made, attractive, and feature rich messenger bag: Your search ends here.

Great piece of gear, I would recommend to others, but with minor changes. Review by Jason M / (Posted on 5/4/2016)
I am impressed by the quality of this piece of gear, I like how slim of a profile it has, it's not a huge bag for a laptop. I would definitely recommend the following changes:
1. Make the laptop pocket capable of accepting a CF-31 size laptop. I would think that most of the people who would buy this bag, in camo, would probably want to stick a fully rugged laptop in there. The current size is only barely too small...
2. Since the top flap is great for slimming the profile of the bag, and adding that piece of fuzzy velcro is perfect for adding a name tape and a unit patch, but it's not enough room for the service tape, plus name tape, plus unit patch. Name and unit patch definitely helps, but adding the service branch tape can be key for helping identify an owner faster and better.
3. I can fit my laptop, (fully rugged, yep it's thick), but when adding my standard power cable adapter, plus vehicle power cable adapter), and finally my surge protector, the profile really pushes out and the top flag no longer snugs down to a nice tidy messenger bag like shown in the product picture, it instead reveals the velcro patches below.

In short, I wish it was a little bigger, but it works well, and other people will want to buy it, until they open it up and see how everything fits, where it's just a little small in each pocket, and the laptop sleeve, but adding a couple inches in height of the pockets, a couple inches in the available space for the laptop sleeve, and adding a little more fuzzy velcro space available for 2 name tapes plus unit patch, and this bag is totally good to go.

For my purposes, this works, and it seems well constructed.

I hope I was able to offer good and valuable constructive criticism. I will recommend you guys as a company to others.

Many bags, only one choice Review by Jesus L / (Posted on 4/27/2016)
I've used my Direct Action Messenger now for two weeks. I am extremely satisfied with its design which directly supports my lifestyle/usage.

The Messenger is able to accept the four Thyrm Cell Vaults I have by way of the MOLLE stitched into the two pockets underneath the main flap. The internal pockets and sleeves provide sufficient storage so I can place items in the bag and not have to search through the entire bag to locate/retrieve them. The loop backing on the exterior of the main flap allows me to change up the look by applying different morale patches. Further, the Messenger is large enough to hold my CRKT Chogan tomahawk inside so I always have it handy.

The overall quality of the Direct Action Messenger is excellent in terms of materials, fit, and finish. I look forward to many an adventure with my Messenger at my side. Thank you for an excellent product.

Love it Review by Marc R / (Posted on 4/26/2016)
I just wanted to provide my input after owning the bag for longer than a day. It's been almost 6 months now. Being that the star options are only quality, price, and value, I can't give it less than 5 stars. If there were another category for an overall rating, I would have to give it 4 stars. Here's why.
I suppose your intentions for this bag will either make it great or make it not work for you, but for me, I just haven't been able to use it. My Macbook Pro is 15 inch, and it doesn't fit in the laptop compartment. It fits in the main compartment, which is cool, but it s too wide so even though it fits, it starts to push out on the side pockets. Speaking of the side pockets, they aren't big enough. The water bottle pouch wont fit my 27 oz klean canteen, which is a pretty average sized water bottle. That's with nothing in the bag too, so if you throw a bigger laptop in here then forget about it. On the opposite side you have a zip up pouch, but it only opens halfway. I don't have giant hands, but I can't really reach into the pocket so its hard to get things in and out of there.
So, overall, the bag is just too small for me. Not only for a laptop, but for other stuff as well. My iPad pro fits in here fine, but even then, the other compartments don't hold enough so I find myself using a backpack instead. With one pouch holding charging cables, another pouch holding a mouse, CAC reader, etc, the bag is already almost full. If only the bag were just a little bigger.
In addition, as another reviewer pointed out, the carry handle at the top of the bag should be changed to go from side to side, as in its current configuration, if the bag isn't closed, you lose functionality of the handle. To close you need to snap the connectors in or hope the velcro holds.
My last "gripe" would be the waist belt. It isn't designed in a way for quick easy adjustment and connecting/disconnecting. If it were made in a way to pull tight/loosen on the go and clip on/off with one hand, I would love it. In its current state, its hard to get it tight and once you do, its hard to loosen and/or disconnect one end.
Otherwise, the quality is remarkable. This bag will likely last a lifetime, and then some. It looks sharp and will no doubt perform well for anyone. The pad on the carry strap has this great rubber coating, which is a nice feature. The zippers are strong and the track is inverted to keep the elements out, and the rubber around the pull strings on the zippers is a nice touch. It came in this nice, neat little bag inside the shipping box, which I thought was a nice touch.

Excellent Computer Bag Review by Zachary P / (Posted on 4/23/2016)
There should be more padding in both the computer compartment and the main compartment as this is the largest size available and anyone with a 15" computer uses the main compartment for their most important item. The large front pocket or the large map pocket that make up the two storage areas in the flap cover should be looser. One of the two is what a common user will select to keep their charger and mouse and the tightness of the pockets make that a little difficult. The zippered section next to the body is the ideal place for concealed carry, i myself keep a tactical three section collapsing baton in that pocket. Because of this prime pocket location, this pocket is also far to tight and should also be lined with Velcro as that is where everyone will want to attach a handgun and extra magazines. All three zippered pockets should unzip fully. The water bottle slot should be rebuilt to accommodate something larger. The waist strap clips are too tight and being plastic are the most likely item to break. All that being put aside and written as honest feedback, I will use this forever, it is perfect and exactly what I wanted, those adjustments would be improvements to better suit me personally and perhaps better compete with every other bag on the market, which this bag already likely ranks in the top 5. Thank You Direct Action

Quality is outstanding, Design could be more concealed carry friendly Review by Greg D / (Posted on 4/13/2016)
Well I've only had the bag for about 30-minutes and I just transferred my stuff from my Vertx messenger bag into this new messenger bag. My thoughts while transferring my stuff over was there is no way all this stuff is going to fit but it did for the most part. Like all the other reviewers there is no doubt that the bag is well made and the price and value are great. I do have some design suggestions.

- There needs to be a small admin pouch/zipper on the front for the things that I use the most without having to dig so deep with the existing layout.

- I carry a 9mm M&P Shield in my Vertx bag and it has it's own compartment with a velcro lining that I use a maxpedition holster that sticks to the side. This works very well because it's not sharing a compartment with other items. With this bag I have to store my pistol in the same compartment as the laptop and this will be visible to anyone that is looking... I wish this bag would have used the compartment on the back of the bag as a concealed compartment for this purpose.

Other thoughts:

This bag's quality is a little better than my vertx bag.
With just a few design modifications this bag could be the best bag I have ever used

Amazing product Review by Jacob V / (Posted on 3/16/2016)
This is my first purchase from Direct action and I wasn't disappointed. I think the price was a little steep but it's a reliable bag and it has so many uses. I also appreciate the thought that goes into it with the card that was cool but over all the bag has done very well so far and I have put it to use so thanks.

Call me crazy Review by Joe W / (Posted on 3/12/2016)
The Messenger Bag is now my 7th Direct Action product purchased since they hit the US market. For years I have been cycling through more competitive tactical packs, bags, & pouches than a rational man should. Lately, I have been so impressed with DA quality and price points, I have now bought most of the line. This bag will become my business oriented EDC "briefcase", and its features are nearly perfect for that. One primary need was for concealed carry and its robust hook & loop (i.e., the loop side) interior works out great for velcro holsters. When I'm in a dicey area, I can leave the top flap hanging down loose and have quick access to the interior.

Outer perimeter organizational pouches show the usual intelligent engineering design for us organization freaks.
Yet another home run!!

Perfect EDC Messenger Bag! Review by Douglas B / (Posted on 2/27/2016)
I own a gym, so I am constantly bringing my stuff to and from- this bag is perfect for that purpose. I carry my daily planner, spare knife, water, communication (phones), and every day essentials (concealed carry weapon) in this bag. There is plenty of room for all of this, plus more. The bag is extremely well made and looks like it will last forever and I hope it does. I love the cutouts for Molle gear and the velcro for fastening patches. Great job Direct Action Team and I am looking forward to my next purchase!

Seriously well made, easy 5 Star rating... Review by Robert G / (Posted on 2/24/2016)
The GREY version of this Messenger Bag is truly a "Grey Man" gear item. It is well-designed with thought to layout and function, the construction is Tier-1 quality with perfectly sewn and tensioned stitches, with reinforcement bar tacks where needed, and quality materials are used throughout. I first bought a Ghost pack, now this Messenger Bag, and I am a Direct Action customer for as long as they keep this product the best I have seen anywhere at this price point. Get it, you will not be disappointed!

Great product, might not suit my needs Review by Samuel C / (Posted on 2/23/2016)
Hey guys,
First and foremost, I love this bag. Really, I do, and I've been recommending it nonstop and I think I've netted at least one customer for you as a result. But, I imagine you'll get more out of criticism than praise, so here goes:
-The pockets that only half open are unnecessary and a pain. They are just deep enough to be really inconvenient when something is at the bottom. And nothing makes me feel sloppier than pulling a bunch of things out to access the desired object.
-The water bottle pouch should fit a nalgene. You guys seem to have some slick zip open bottle holders on your backpacks, and these would augment the messenger dramatically. This is probably my biggest point of contention with the bag. There is ample room for a lot of things, just not the one thing I try to have on me at all times. The only other option is to add a mole nalgene holder and unfortunately there isn't any place that would fit well on here, like it would on your small messenger. You could even get creative, with a clip up top and some shock cord to keep it from flapping. That could be adjust to fit any bottle, but I digress.
-Consider a clip as opposed to a carabiner style attachment for the waist belt. It's there to snuggly attach the bag to your torso, but when it's that tight it is really hard to fasten and unfasten.
-The points of attachment for the waist belt should also be reconsidered. If the shoulder strap is tight enough, which is when I'd imagine one would use the waist strap, the bag sits at an angle. Attachment points that reflected this positioning would be more ergonomic and functional.
-An option to access the inside without opening the whole flap would be great, just like on your small messenger.
-Somehow retain the functionality of the top handle when the flap is unsecure. Nothing sucks more than moving from one table to the next, one desk to the next, and having to completely lock the whole thing down again or grab it like a baby.
-Lastly, and this is the most subjective, it's just slightly too big for me. I can stuff in just enough trash to give me back aches, and I like my back more than I like your bag.
So, there it is. And again, let me reiterate, I love this bag. I am actually strongly considering getting the small messenger. Given the price (I'm a poor medical student whose only income is from the VA. $800 a month for getting shot twice, fuck me, right?) I'm going to have to wait a bit before its in my range, which sucks because I'd like to use the 10% off y'all gave me, but I like electricity too.
So keep doing it. This was my first purchase and won't be my last.
Respectfully,
-Samuel Crist

You can take the Man out of the Army but cant take the Army out of the Man Review by Ben C / (Posted on 2/7/2016)
After being a SOG commander for a few years now shifted into a civilian executive role, I have been through several briefcases, just because they never work. Bought the DA messenger bag after other good reviews and am very pleased. Runs my (MS Surface) like it was purpose built, along with room for overnight trips (shirt, dopp etc.). Fits the look perfectly, highly recommend for any unit officer field coms or drone screens. Really looking forward to DA producing some Carry-on and rolling duffle luggage, would love to match up the set.
BIG downside, no distributors in Australia so my cost was high, as reflected in review. But if I could of purchased without the shipping 5stars.

Just one more inch... Review by Melvin F / (Posted on 2/1/2016)
Great build quality! Zipper pulls are easy to grab. The drink pocket is just on the small side but not a big deal. The only down side is it is just barley too small for my laptop, it's a 14 inch and thought that it would fit with a little persuasion, nope. It would probably be snug on a 13 inch. Great bag, just needs to be a little bigger.

Great bag for a laptop! Review by Brett P / (Posted on 1/21/2016)
I have a Dell XPS 15, that I was hoping would fit in the bag as it is the smallest 15" on the market. The computer was about a 1/4 inch too big to fit into the protected portion of the case. If you have a 13" or smaller (as they suggest) this is a perfect bag.

I really like this bag and the quality is amazing. The only problem is I don't use it. It isn't big enough for my 15 inch laptop and the water bottle holder doesn't fit my water bottle. It's too small. If the bag were bigger I would be a happy camper.

Truly a Awesome Bag Review by Sutty / (Posted on 12/5/2015)
To be quite honest IMHO, this is the best Messenger Bag I have EVER OWNED. Now, let's make one thing clear from the get go this is just my opinion . First Off , I have a IPad in a Lifeproof Case... Not a Laptop, so this Bag fits it with room to spare, and would fit a iPad Pro in a similar case. As far as laptops go, a 13" for sure , but anything larger would likely not fit in the Laptop/Tablet designated padded pocket. I think that in the Main Compartment a 15" would fit , I suspect. I've owned and used Messenger Bags from everyone , 5.11, Vanquest, Hazard 4, and ITS Tactical (Zulu Nylon) This Bag takes all the Best from each and puts it in a Perfect Sized Package for me. The other Bags , although Excellent in Quality, were always Larger , thus making me fill them up ( my own fault ) otherwise they just seemed empty. The Direct Action , allows for many different carry capabilities .... In Town I carry the IPad in the designated Padded Pocket along with my Colt Combat Commander, and a IFAK in the Main Compartment. When I Fly for Work , I leave the Colt at home and add whatever is necessary to the trip at hand. On the outside pockets, I have a put everything from Pens and Pencils to a Compass , to all my Personal Electronics Charging Stuff (Cables, Mophie Powerstation, etc) . This Bag for Me , is much like the 3 Bears Story.... Some Bags were just too Big, others were too Small, this One Is Just Right. Construction and Material wise , I will put this bag up against any othe bag or manufacturer as far as Quality and Workmanship goes. The Cordura is actual Cordura , it 500 D , now hold on I know some will say , "it's not 1000 D" , true , but that's a lot of added weight with out much benefit for the average user. This 500D will hold up to everything you can throw at it in our daily travels , as well as some not so mundane travels too. In closing, I do not think you'll find a better bag for the money, and I've spent more on bags that were far less in there Quality. You will not be disappointed , unless you try and stick a 17" laptop in it, but that's not what this bag was designed for(Thank Goodness). If that's the case size you want or must have, then go and buy one of the Messenger Suitcases that are out there and fill it till your hearts content.

You Wont Be Disappointed! Review by Jason S / (Posted on 10/1/2015)
As the Chief Firearms Instructor for a law enforcement training agency, I have the opportunity to use and test many different products throughout the year. There are several companies we provide direct product evaluations and feedback to on their products. Other companies frequently send us their products for T&E purposes.

With that said, when it came time to downsize my full-size computer case, I conducted a ton of research and read many reviews. I narrowed my selection down to three brands, one of which was the Direct Action Messenger Bag. When it was said and done, I made the conscious decision to purchase the Messenger Bag, even though I had not heard of Direct Action before. The Bag came in just a few days and it was packaged well. I immediately dissected every inch of the bag to familiarize myself with it and devise carry options for my equipment. The quality of the product seems first-rate. The stitching, fabric cuts, laser cutting and hardware are all topnotch.

First on the outside, the design is sleek and low-profile. It doesn't scream "tactical," especially in the black color I purchased it in. I like this because it looks great in the classroom, conference room or on the range. The laser-cut MOLLE almost goes unnoticed, even to the trained eye. The flap over the main compartment sheds water nicely in the rain and keeps the elements out. The shoulder strap and carry handle are both sturdy and comfortable. The non-slip shoulder pad is comfortable and keeps the bag on your shoulder with ease regardless of your shirt or outwear material. I like the optional velcro flap closure as a quick "get up and go" option without the buckles being fastened. Regardless of what you carry in this bag, I don't think you can exceed the length of the buckles.

The two front pockets are generous on space and compartmentalized for many storage options in a neat manner. I would like to see the left sided pocket fully unzip like a clamshell (this is just my personal preference) like the right side pocket. The MOLLE on the front pockets allows for additional equipment carriage in a concealed manner if desired. The zippered side pocket on left side is nicely compartmentalized and I use this for my IFAK, which consists of a CAT, QuickClot, gauze, a tactical light and a few other smaller items. I have found that the water bottle pocket on the right is a bit small and fits slimmer bottles best. You cannot put a Nalgene bottle into it if you are wondering. REI vacuum mugs and Hydro Flask slim bottles do work well in it. I would personally like to see this pocket just a tad bit bigger for a larger bottle or cramming more stuff into it. Perhaps an alternate closing method as well, such as an elastic drawstring cord. The rear pock is large and flat and I only have one suggestion for this pocket- make the zipper a two-way zipper so that it can be easily accessed when carrying on either the right or left shoulder. I would also suggest lining this pocket with velcro as it would make for a great, fast access port for concealed carry. It comes with a waist strap, but I do not use it.

On the inside, the main compartment is just large enough to carry papers, folders, pads, notebooks, books, and other things for the day. The padded computer pocket is just large enough for my MacBook Pro, but I would not encourage trying to cram a larger laptop in it! When the description says a 13" notebook, they mean 13"! I routinely carry both my laptop and iPad and still have plenty of room for the days files, papers, range records, etc. I like the clear map pocket on the inside flap, which for me tends to fill up with smaller, nonessential items as the day wears on. Its a great stash pocket.

Overall, this bag was designed to be fast and mobile! As mentioned, it is low-profile and highly functional. Think "fast and light, with essentials for the day." I am not personally a fan of shoulder-slung bags for bug out options, but if you use this bag for that purpose it will certainly fit the bill. Direct Action did a great job of describing this bag on their website and I would have to say that was one of the deciding factors on my purchase. So far I have really enjoyed this bag and know it was a wise purchase! If you purchase this bag for its "fast and light" purpose, you will NOT be disappointed!

A few small things hold this bag from being GREAT Review by Dorian D / (Posted on 8/27/2015)
First of all the large one is far from large. Need one bigger size. The same stay flat zippered water bottle pocket as the backpacks would be nice on one side. Line the inside with a contrasting color for ease of finding things. Add velcro in the back pocket for concealed carry options.

Great quality of materials and of stitching however. Good bag.

Great bag at an incredible price! Review by Sal / (Posted on 8/1/2015)
This bag fits my needs for work EDC *almost* perfectly.

Improvements I would like to see made (in order) are:

1) Enlarge the water bottle pouch to be able to better accommodate a 32oz Nalgene bottle.

I can force one in but it greatly protrudes into the main compartment and the bottle doesn't feel very secure. I have since switched to a 16oz Thermos travel mug to take to work.

2) Install a hook-and-loop field in the back zipper section that hugs the body for placement of aftermarket concealed carry holsters.

3) (nitpicking) Patch over or sew down the webbing for the exterior female buckles that is stitched inside the flap zipper section.

While it isn't a major gripe, things tend to get caught by the loose webbing when inserting/extracting small objects from the flap pocket. A flush surface would be much more desirable.

Overall, I am very impressed and quite pleased with this product. I am a big fan of using 500D Cordura to reduce weight while maintaining durability and the craftsmanship is on par with anything I have purchased from Tactical Tailor, Maxpedition, Blackhawk, HSGI or TAG.

I will be back to purchase a Dragon Egg.

Well, I just received the messenger bag so this is more of a first impressions review. So far I am a big fan. The materials used and the quality of the sewing and layout of the bag are very nice. There is lots of organization and padding in the bag. There is also a ton of Velcro inside for attaching accessories. The laser cut molle is also very nice.
